Zero downtime for business-critical logging

16 global regions supported post-migration

Improved scalability & resilience

We enabled one of the world’s largest financial services companies to migrate its mission- critical logging platform from a proprietary centralized SaaS platform on the cloud to an on- premise data center with zero data loss and no business disruption. Our innovative solution, rapidly delivered in just a few weeks, optimized licensing costs while delivering a resilient, scalable, and high-performance logging environment for global application teams.

The Customer

Our customer is one of the world’s largest information and insights companies specializing in credit reporting, risk management, and identity verification. The company serves global financial institutions, insurers, retailers, and healthcare providers. The customer operates across 16 geographies and supports revenue-critical applications for millions of users globally.

The Goal

Our customer’s centralized enterprise logging platform was hosted on a proprietary SaaS-based cloud environment, continuously ingesting application and infrastructure data critical to business operations. Reliability was crucial as any disruption or outage of this platform could potentially impact the business. The customer identified the need to migrate the logging platform from the cloud based environment to its lower-cost on-premise data center. A large and diverse user base relied on the platform for multiple business functions. Even though it was time sensitive to avoid burgeoning license costs, a careful evaluation and execution of the migration strategy was paramount. The migration solution would help our customer:

  • Optimize licensing by eliminating costs associated with the virtual compute based licensing model.
  • Maintain continuous ingestion and availability of application and infrastructure logs.
  • Ensure complete parity of data, knowledge objects, access controls, and performance in the new environment.

The Challenges

  • Business criticality: Any disruption or outage of the logging platform could directly impact revenue, their security posture, and customer trust.
  • Scale and complexity: Continuous ingestion of application and infrastructure data across 16 distinct geographical regions.
  • Knowledge object migration: Each application maintained its own dashboards, reports, and searches, all of which needed to be replicated exactly.
  • User access consistency: User roles and permissions had to remain unchanged to avoid workflow disruption.
  • Version compatibility: Ensuring component and application compatibility during the migration.
  • Data integrity: Maintaining consistent data formatting and parsing to prevent downstream issues.

The Solution

With extensive experience implementing SaaS applications and SaaS-to on premise migrations, Softility rapidly devised a migration plan to minimize risk and ensure continuity of operations. Thanks to this prior experience and highly successful reusable templates, we were able to save a significant amount of time in planning and developing the infrastructure modernization and migration solution to manage high data volumes without any operational impact.

  • Dual Forwarding Architecture: Data was dual-forwarded to both the proprietary centralized enterprise logging SaaS platform on the cloud and the customer’s on- premise centralized logging environment, ensuring no data loss during migration.
  • Lift-and-Shift Migration: Indexes, configurations, applications, and knowledge objects were migrated while maintaining functional parity between cloud and on- prem environments.
  • Capacity and Performance Strategy: On-prem infrastructure specifications were designed to handle ingestion volumes, retention requirements, and search workloads at scale.
  • Access and Security Preservation: Existing user roles, permissions, and access privileges were replicated to ensure uninterrupted workflows for business and technical users.
  • Cost-Optimized Historical Data Storage: Historical data was archived using the customer’s existing integration, enabling seamless data transfer while optimizing long-term storage costs.

This approach enabled a smooth transition from the SaaS-based logging platform to an on-premise deployment without any operational disruption.

The Benefits

The migration delivered both immediate cost savings and long-term operational benefits:

  • Eliminated licensing costs associated with the cloud-based virtual compute model.
  • Delivered a resilient and high-scale on premise centralized logging platform.
  • Ensured uninterrupted log ingestion and availability during the migration.
  • Maintained consistency of dashboards, reports, searches, and access privileges for all users.
  • Enabled application teams to continue using the logging platform without changes to existing workflows.
